Nail polish is becoming more and more popular as a fashion accessory. There are so many options nowadays that you can use nail polish to enhance any look, or even as a central focus. From traditional single colour polishes to intricate nail art, and simple ways to add patterns or embellishments, there are hundreds of options. Taking the trouble to apply nail polish and keep your nails well tended means that you will always look well-presented.
The great thing about nail polish is that it is an easy way to change your look – one day you could be wearing a simple French polish, the next a patterned fuschia, then rock chick black. The possibilities are endless. If you are are looking for inspiration, Cosmopolitan’s Daily Nail feature will help you to keep up with the trends. Manicures are not always necessary, you can achieve a good look at home, even using a cheap nail polish as long as you make sure to keep to a good routine to care for your nails:
Keep your nails neat by using a file or emery board to smooth rough edges. If you chip your nail tip, make sure to smooth this as soon as possible to avoid catching and breaking it. Keep your hands well moisturised, and don’t neglect them when you apply sun cream in summer; pay special attention to your cuticles by using a cuticle oil daily. When you apply nail polish, use a base coat to protect the nail surface from staining. Apply the nail polish in three strokes, leaving a slight gap at each side, to get an even colour and make nails appear longer and more elegant. To prolong the life of your colour, apply a clear top coat and allow to dry thoroughly before you start using your hands again.
The colour you opt for really can help to promote a particular look. For example, a neutral colour, perhaps with French tips, is ideal for a job interview. It is a classically feminine look which looks elegant and understated. The neutral tones are also perfect for everyday wear, as they will go with virtually any outfit. If you dressing up for an event, try a bold statement colour. Pillar box red looks fantastic with a black dress, or choose a colour to compliment the tones in your outfit. Pastel and metallic colours are set to be very popular this season for everyday wear. If this doesn’t appeal to you, you could opt for black, dark green or purple and stay with the grunge trend. These shades will look better on shorter nails. You can also add patterns with nail art pens, or stick on embellishments such as jewels or bows to make your nails truly unique. Whatever your look, the right nail polish really will complete it!

I agree 100%!!! I love how just doing your nails can make an outfit! I used to bite my nails badly and finallly stopped about 8 months ago and now my nails are long, strong, and healthy because I first and foremost, don’t bite them, lol hehe, and I keep my hands moisturized and I use a daily cuticle oil and glycolic scrub from julep and I do my nails a few times a week. I love nails!
