Why is it that when temperatures drop, we not only seem to think that function comes over fashion, but also that the two can’t work harmoniously together? Hello… winter clothing can be some of the most fabulous, but too often do we see a tragic mismatching of accessories, unflattering coats and ugly boots that ruin our smart look.
To keep things stylish despite the weather, I’ve compiled a list of the hot-right-now winter clothing that is perfect for keeping you chic no matter the temperature.
I love a good knit, but people often think a knit can’t be smart. I beg to differ. Example A, this gorgeous Marc Jacobs tulip sweater available from Jules B. Simply team it with smart grey woollen skinnies, or a black pencil skirt and thick tights for a great base to your winter wardrobe.
Replace your blazers with this office-ready, dark grey textured short jacket from H&M. It’s a warmer option but still looks uber stylish, and smart with a crisp white shirt or black crepe skirt.
The heavy hitting coat
A good quality coat is, without a doubt, the best way to keep warm – well, that and staying indoors next to a fire. If you don’t already have one, I’d suggest investing in a classic black, belted wool coat for instant style and winter fashion points. This ASOS coat in textured wool is simply perfect.
When winter rolls around, its oh-so tempting to create a bad hair day by throwing on a beanie. Why not try rocking a vintage-inspired bowler hat like this one from Urban Outfitters? It’s guaranteed to keep you just as warm but looks instantly smarter. I love the colour too.
Winter is, in my option, the best season for footwear, you can pick up some great styles and these fringed Sam Edelman ankle boots are stunning cold weather essentials. Featuring a cute block heel and pointed toe, they take you from daytime smart, to night-time glam in seconds.
Well, that’s my run down. I just hope I’m on the nice list this year and Santa leaves me one or two under the tree.
