Although most of us think of wedding rings as being something that both the husband and wife wear after getting married, that wasn’t always the case. Up until the mid 1900s, the wife was typically the only one to wear a ring. As more people were able to afford rings and rings became seen as less overtly feminine, the double ring ceremony trend caught on, and now, most grooms do pick out a ring to wear right alongside their bride.
Picking out matching or complementary wedding rings can be a fun activity for an engaged couple to do before the wedding day. For a man who may not have ever visit Chic Jewelry or other jewelry stores for himself, though, it may also be confusing. Here are some tips on picking out the right rings.
1. They Don’t Have to Match Exactly
While a couple can get identical rings if they so choose, the woman might want something a little flashier on hers, like a diamond or other precious gem. These are less typical for men’s rings, so it’s perfectly acceptable to get rings that are made of the same materials but have different embellishments. That way, each person gets something they’ll be happy to wear every day.
2. Shop Online
Picking out rings can be a long process, so do some window shopping online, even if you plan to go to a physical jewelry store to buy the rings in the end. This gives the couple a chance at length to discuss what they do and don’t like, without a salesperson urging them toward a specific choice.
3. It Should Be Comfortable
Some rings have angular edges while others are soft and round. Since this is a ring meant to be worn all the time, rather than just for special occasions, round edges are almost always the right choice. Comfort is also about getting the right size. Sometimes fingers can swell a little bit, for various reasons, so even if a man knows his ring size, he shouldn’t be shy in asking about resizing options if the ring doesn’t seem to fit right.
4. Think About Engraving
Many couples choose to have a meaningful quote, date, or pet name engraved on their wedding rings. This can also be a nice way to celebrate the first anniversary, so there’s no rush to engrave them before the wedding date. If one or the other wants engraved rings for the ceremony, however, they’ll need to plan ahead. At a busy jewelry store, it could take several days until the ring is ready, so don’t wait until the last minute.
