Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to get all dolled up, but sometimes less is more when it comes to makeup. Nude cosmetics can bring out your natural beauty and leave you looking fresh-faced throughout the festive period, so what else can you do to enhance your appearance?
Choose the right foundation
One of the best ways to achieve a flawless complexion is to use the right foundation. This should blend into your skin without turning you an unhealthy shade of brown, so test each product on your jawline and not on the back of your hand like some women do. Once you have the concealer you need, buy the same brand in a slightly darker shade, as this will draw the eye away from your bad bits. If you have a long, pointy nose, for instance, you can put a little on the end (underneath the nostrils) to make it look smaller. This is a great alternative to booking rhinoplasty with a qualified surgeon and could help you look fabulous.
Use blusher sparingly
If you look a little pale and washed out without any makeup, it’s ok to use a little blusher – just try not to overdo it. Start by applying a light colour to your cheekbones, before brushing a slightly darker shade underneath. This will add definition to your face and give you a soft, winter glow – without making you look like Bridge Jones from The Edge of Reason. Of course, you should use cosmetics that complement your skin tone, so learn what suits you and get the natural look you’re going for.
Don’t overdo the eye shadow
Believe it or not, you don’t always have to wear bright, sparkly eye shadow to stand out from the crowd. Neutral shades are often underrated, but creams, browns and beiges look wonderful when the rest of your makeup is subtle. They can be blended together to create rich tones and are relatively easy to apply, as they tend not to smudge as much as darker colours. What’s more, if you’re going from a day event to an evening party, light shades also provide a great base for more adventurous products.
Take good care of your lips
If you happen to have a date this year, make sure you have soft, kissable lips by gently exfoliating them on a regular basis. This will remove any dead skin cells and will ensure your smackers stay in good condition, despite the chilly conditions. If you’re not a fan of lipstick, apply a little gloss to help them sparkle and keep a little Vaseline nearby so they always look shiny.
With cosmetic procedures such as nose surgery and lip fillers available at many clinics, it can be tempting to arrange a treatment, but even the most basic makeup can help revitalise your complexion – so why not give these techniques a go?
